role
I worked directly with the founder of Kiwi Studios to redesign the product design firm’s portfolio website, optimizing it for mobile and web. We also worked with a developer who was actively implementing our designs and animations.
about Kiwi Studios 🥝
Kiwi Studios is a product design studio based in Los Angeles working with early-stage startups to develop websites and apps for their products.
problem
The old site for Kiwi Studios was made on a standard website builder template which wasn't ideal for a company specializing in product design.
The founder felt the old site didn't accurately portray what the design studio had to offer.
solution
We developed a simple style guide to not take away from the showcased designs while still being visually pleasing and fun to interact with. We wanted to encourage visitors to click around the site as much as possible in order to see what Kiwi Studios had to offer.
the site
Site visitors are met with fun loading animations and a short description of the studio. This is followed by large cards of previous projects with pinned titles because they take up the entire viewport.

Each of the project pages showcase the designs made by Kiwi Studios followed by a footer navigation encouraging the user to browse other projects.

what i learned
This project was unique because the design's purpose was to showcase rather than be the actual product. I gained the most experience in animation design: including loading animations and page transitions.
I found verbally communicating these animations to the developer wasn't effective, so I learned how to prototype these animations using Principle (my favorite creation →).
